On Monday, 06 April 2020, STP’s Prime-Minister H.E. Dr Jorge Bom Jesus confirmed in an official allocution that four (04) tested cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in country.
The Government maintain its full determination to contain the spread of the disease. A Special Council of Ministers took place later the same day and decided to reinforce the fight against the disease with the following measures, which will enter in force on 8 April, midnight:
• Suspension of all maritime and air connexions between the islands.
• Suspension of all visits in hospitals, health centres and prisons.
• Implementation of a reduced time of duty, from 7:30 AM until 01:00 PM in Public Administrations for non-essential public services.
• Closure of all restaurants, bars, bakeries, except those with home delivery services.
• Limitation of passengers in taxis and private vehicles, up to half of the legal capacity of vehicles.
• Prohibition of gatherings or meetings of more than 10 people.
• Obligation to respect the sanitary distance of 2 metres, the use of masks by the employees and the provision of washbasins and alcohol to disinfect customers and users in all public or private institutions that provide services to the public.
On the other hand, the Government wants to accelerate contacts with the WHO for the urgent dispatch of the promised equipment.
