Chevron has announced a discovery at its 105-4X well on Cabinda Block 0, offshore Angola. The announcement follows two further positive developments reported by Sonangol E.P.: the Katambi-02 appraisal well in the southern Benguela Basin indicated potential for a commercial development, and the Pacassa SW well on Block 3/05 confirmed pre-drill estimates of up to 70 million barrels of recoverable oil.

Afentra plc, which holds an interest in the Pacassa SW well, has indicated the well will be completed as a producer, with potential output of approximately 5,000 bbl/d.

What this means for clients

Together, these results underline the prospectivity of Angola’s offshore basins and the value that can still be unlocked from mature assets through targeted exploration, appraisal and infrastructure-led development. For companies active in or evaluating Angola, the pattern reinforces that mature acreage remains commercially attractive when paired with focused technical work — a dynamic worth factoring into portfolio and licensing decisions in the basin.
